Caitie uses qualitative research methods to critically analyze and develop design recommendations around AI/ML and data science in a variety of contexts, including AI behavioral healthcare, social media, and the future of work. Their research focuses on understanding the practices and experiences of both users and designers of these systems. Caitie has an MS in Informatics from the University of California, Irvine, where they researched how people place trust in algorithmic systems–and their imagined futures–in the context of blockchain communities. They have also worked for Microsoft Research and as a researcher for CU Boulder.
